“Mayor Lenny Curry, Judges, and the Duval Delegation in One Room: A Lively Fireside Chat Regarding the Needs of Our Community”
The Jacksonville Bar Association and the Governmental Relations Committee are pleased to announce that the JBA is recognizing members of the Florida Legislative Duval Delegation at the upcoming lunch meeting. This is a RARE opportunity to witness all three branches of government in one room: the Judges, members of the Duval Delegation, and Mayor Curry, who is the featured speaker. The Duval Delegation includes the Senate and House representatives that comprise our Florida Legislature, specifically Senate Districts 4 and 9, and House Districts 11 through 16.
JBA members will have the opportunity to meet and speak with the legislators beginning at 11:30 AM – 12:00 p.m. in the main dining hall at the Hyatt.
The luncheon meeting will take place Friday, April 22, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Hotel, 225 East Coastline Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32202.

2016 JBA Board of Governors Nominations Petitions
accepted March 28, 2016 through 5 p.m., April 4, 2016
A President-Elect and five members of the Board of Governors are to be elected by the date of the Annual Meeting of the Association to be held on Monday, May 2, 2016.
Members wishing to run for a seat on the Board of Governors must submit a nomination petition signed by 10 active members of the JBA, along with a recent color photo and profile form electronically to email@example.com no later than 5:00 P.M., Monday, April 4, 2016.
No nominations will be accepted after that date and time.

Professionalism Nomination Petitions Sought
The Bench and Bar Professionalism Committee will be accepting nominations through April 15, 2016. The recipient of the award will be announced at the Jacksonville Bar Association Law Day Luncheon. The Florida Bar has mandated new minimum standards prescribed for attorneys handling felony cases under Rule 3.133. This seminar will satisfy the new Minimum Standards for Attorneys in Felony Cases under Rule 3.113 which is effective in May 16, 2016, and provides as follows:
“Before an attorney may participate as counsel of record in the circuit court for any adult felony case, including postconviction proceedings before the trial court, the attorney must complete a course, approved by The Florida Bar for continuing legal education credits, of at least 100 minutes and covering the legal and ethical obligations of discovery in a criminal case, including the requirements of rule 3.220, and the principles established in Brady v. Maryland, 373 U.S. 83 (1963) and Giglio v. United States, 405 U.S. 150 (1972).”
Speakers Denis deVlaming and The Honorable Angela Corey (prosecution and defense) will present an intensive point/counterpoint presentation which will satisfy the new Fla.R.Crim.Proc., Rule 3.113, minimum standards in felony cases requirements pertaining to Fla.R.Crim.Proc. 3.220 Discovery and Brady-Giglio obligations.
