CORE Training Meeting

On July 29, 2015 over 700 people attended the CORE Training meeting hosted by The Jacksonville Bar Association.  The event took place at the Duval County Courthouse, Jury Assembly Room.

CORE: For the July 29 meeting scheduled for 9:30 AM at the Courthouse Jury Assembly Room

The Jury Selection Room holds just under 600 people.  Approximately 400 people have already provided notice that they will attend.  Given these numbers, we encourage everyone to arrive before 9:30 AM in order to start on time.  We hope that persons who have taken the time to respond will be able to participate even though there are walk-ins who did not reply.

Once again — Respond to  thebedellfirm@bedellfirm.com   State YES and the number planning to attend.

In attendance will be Chief Judge Mark Mahon and 8th Circuit Judge Robert Rountree, who runs the state’s trial Court Budget Committee and controls the purse strings.  9th Circuit Judge Lisa Munyon, who chairs the Supreme Court’s Florida Courts Technology Commission, the mother ship of this exercise, will also address the group.  Clerk Ronnie Fussell and his senior staff will take responsibility for educating everyone on the new logistics of CORE.

It is hoped the meeting will last approximately 90 minutes.

Thanks to The Jacksonville Bar Association for their assistance in this effort, including providing coffee to everyone.  Other refreshments are available in the lounge down the hall.

May 28th from 5 to 7 p.m. All Attorneys are invited to attend….

The Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers’ Division (“YLD”) has declared the month of May as “Health and Wellness Month”.  During May, the YLD has initiated a number of projects geared at bringing awareness to the mental and physical stress often associated with the practice of law.

The Young Lawyers’ Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association (“YLS”) has organized an event during May in the spirit of Health and Wellness Month.  The YLS challenges YOU to take a break from the daily grind, walk away from your desk and enjoy some good-natured fun with friends and colleagues!

On May 28 between 5:00 and 7:00, attorneys of all ages are invited to come out to the empty lot adjacent to the Laura Street Trio for friendly competition in dodgeball and kickball, as well as other low-impact activities.  Please join us in the heart of downtown for this inaugural event for some fun physical activity after work.  After all, it may be the only opportunity of your career to hurl a ball at a judge or your opposing counsel.  Non-alcoholic refreshments will be available and athletic dress is recommended.

Between work, family, and outside professional obligations, it is hard for attorneys to make time to focus on their physical health and well-being.  Please join both the YLD and the YLS in taking a well-deserved break to have some fun.  The YLS is working on providing some fun surprises that you will surely not want to miss.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Adam Edgecombe at adam.edgecombe@qpwblaw.com, Jessica Mathis at jmathis@wickersmith.com, or Christian George at christian.george@akerman.com.
