Professionalism Award Nominations

The Professionalism & Mentoring Committee is accepting nominations through April 12, 2018 for this year’s Professionalism Award. The recipient of the award will be announced at the Technology Seminar at TPC, scheduled for May 9, 2018.


  • Member of Jacksonville Bar Association
  • Actively engaged in the practice of law
  • Not currently seeking elective office
  • Not a previous recipient of the JBA’s Professionalism Award

The recipient of the award should:

  • Maintain a high level of professional demeanor
  • Possess integrity, honesty and civility
  • Show consideration and cooperation
  • Exhibit fairness

In addition, the following criteria should be considered in selecting the recipient:

  • A commitment to serve others
  • Being dedicated to the proper use of one’s knowledge to promote a fair and just result
  • Endeavoring always to enhance one’s knowledge and skills
  • Ensuring that concern for the desired result does not subvert fairness, honesty, respect and courtesy for others with whom one comes into contact, be they fellow professionals, clients, opponents, public officials, including members of the judiciary, or the public
  • Contributing one’s skill, knowledge and influence as a lawyer to further the profession’s commitment to serving others and to promoting the public good, including efforts to provide all persons, regardless of their means or popularity of their causes, with access to the law and the judicial system
  • Educating the public about the capabilities and limits of the profession, specifically what it can achieve and the appropriate methods of obtaining those results
  • Accepting responsibility for one’s own professional conduct as well as others in the profession, including inculcating a desire to uphold professional standards and fostering peer regulation to ensure each member is competent and public-spirited

Ehrlich Award Nominations

Nominations are being sought for the 2018 Justice Raymond Ehrlich Trial Advocacy Award, which will be presented February 27, 2018 at the 16th Annual Raymond J. Ehrlich Trial Advocacy Seminar.

The Ehrlich Award annually recognizes a lawyer from the local legal community whose career has embodied those qualities to which litigators aspire.

The Trial Advocacy Award Committee will evaluate applicants based on the qualities that made Justice Ehrlich a role model.

These qualities include:

  • Professionalism
  • Steadfast Obedience to Ethics
  • Discernment
  • Scholarliness
  • Thoroughness and preparedness
  • Aggressiveness
  • Mentorship and a Willingness to help those in need

Outstanding Pro Bono Service Recognition- Have you Done Pro Bono Work???

Each year, attorneys in our circuit who have performed at least 20 hours of pro bono service in the previous calendar year are recognized at the annual Presentation of the Pins ceremony. We already have your hours if you provided services through Guardian ad Litem, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, the JBA Attorney Ad Litem Project, the Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership, the Office of Public Defender Special Assistant Public Defender Program, or Three Rivers Legal Services. However, if you provided at least 20 hours of pro bono service outside the scope of one of these programs, please click here to inform us of your service so you can be honored at the upcoming ceremony on March 9, 2018.

The American Bar Association recently announced the theme for Law Day 2018, which is “Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom.” We will be forming Law Week Committees for Citizenship Day, Naturalization Ceremony, Elementary School Poster Contest, Toiletries & Art Supplies Drive, and Rendezvous on the Rooftop.

1st District Court of Appeal visits Jacksonville
