JBA Young Lawyers Section Seeks Nominations for the Florida Bar YLD Pro Bono Award

Deadline to submit August 2nd

The Florida Bar YLD’s Pro Bono Award recognizes the public service or legal aid performed by a young lawyer (younger than 36 or who has not practiced for more than five years in any jurisdiction) who provides outstanding contributions to those in need of legal services. A nominee must be admitted to practice in Florida.

The term Pro Bono is derived from the phrase pro bono publico meaning “for the good of the public.” The purpose of this award is to encourage more Florida young lawyers to freely contribute their time and expertise in providing legal services to people in their community who cannot otherwise afford those services. In some instances, this will include legal services to charitable organizations that serve the poor. The emphasis of this award is on legal service to the poor.

The Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section is in the process of considering potential nominees to submit for this award. Should you have any suggested nominees to be submitted by the YLS, please send those suggestions via e-mail to Hillary Musselman (Hillary.musselman@fnf.com), Giselle Girones (ggirones@shullmanfugate.com), and Ashlea Edwards (ashlea.edwards@akerman.com) by the close of business on August 2, 2019.  While the nominee packet is due on or before August 30, 2019, the YLS would like to have time to perfect the chosen nominee’s application. Otherwise, feel free to nominate a young lawyer on behalf of your firm, business, or organization.
