Please join The Florida Bar Business Law Section for an exciting event on Wednesday, May 24 at noon at the state courthouse. In conjunction with the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Jacksonville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the Jacksonville Bankruptcy Bar Association, the BLS is pleased to present a FREE one-hour ethics CLE entitled “Got Civility?”.

The CLE features a panel of distinguished judges, including The Honorable Patricia D. Barksdale, The Honorable Harvey L. Jay, III, and The Honorable Tatiana R. Salvador, as well as local practitioners Braxton Gillam, Lynn Drysdale, and Hank Coxe. The program will consist of a discussion of topics in professionalism and civility, with a focus on how a lack of civility affects the profession and techniques and solutions to encourage proper lawyer behavior.

Starting at the Florida Supreme Courthouse in Tallahassee, Mike will “Blaze a Path to Justice” across Florida, ending with a celebration at the Duval County Courthouse on Friday, June 2nd @ 4pm.

Law students, law clerks, interns at law firms and summer associates are invited to hear from some of Jacksonville’s most distinguished judges and lawyers. Noon in June is intended to provide rising 2Ls and 3Ls advice and guidance as they prepare to enter the legal profession.

Beginning with lunch and a presentation in the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse jury assembly room.

Attendees will hear from the Duval County Judge Gary Flower; Tad Delegal, 2017-18 JBA president and managing partner of Delegal Law Offices; Christian George, JBA Young Lawyers Section president and managing partner of Akerman’s Jacksonville office; and Yared Alula, senior counsel for the PGA Tour.

After lunch, attendees will meet U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan and take a tour of the federal courthouse.

Attendees then will head over to the ceremonial courtroom at the State Attorney’s Office for a presentation from Circuit Judge John Guy; Chief Assistant State Attorney Mac Heavener III; and Chief Assistant Public Defender Lewis Buzzell III.

Last but not least, the tour will conclude at the offices of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, where representatives and attorneys of JALA will explain the organization’s role in the community and the services they provide, as well as volunteer opportunities available for advocates.

The season lasts for 5 weeks with 2 weeks of playoffs.

The cost of a team (minimum of 8 players) is $275.00, which includes negotiated bar specials at Indochine San Marco! But wait, there’s more! Individuals who want to play can sign up without a team and will be assigned to a team as a free agent.

Any JBA members (including law students), family of JBA members, staff and employees of JBA members qualify to play. Don’t be afraid to let your inner kickball champion out. The teams will be competing for bragging rights and a golden kickball trophy!
